Citation Sovereign+ (680)
Second and final version of Cessna's Model 680 Sovereign, built after the original Sovereign.
The Sovereign+ pairs about 3,000 nm of range with the shortest takeoff in its midsize peer group, a 25 ft cabin and a modern Garmin cockpit. You give up a flat floor and six-foot headroom, and it burns more fuel than newer rivals.
Buy it if
You fly four to nine passengers up to about 3,000 nm, including coast to coast, use runways near 4,000 ft, will crew it with two pilots, and want a long midsize cabin for about $11–13M.
Skip it if
You want six feet of headroom and a flat floor (Citation Latitude or Praetor 500), want to fly it yourself, or need the lowest hourly cost in the class (Citation XLS+).
Biggest compromise
Cabin shape and fuel burn. The cabin is 25 ft 3 in long but only 5 ft 8 in tall over a dropped aisle (a lowered center walkway) and 5 ft 6 in wide; the Latitude and Praetor 500 have six-foot flat floors.

- Cessna Citation Latitude (680A) instead: Six-foot flat-floor cabin with similar runway performance and lower fuel burn, but about 2,700 nm of range and usually a higher price.
- Embraer Praetor 500 instead: Six-foot flat-floor cabin, 466 kt cruise and Embraer's quoted 3,340 nm range, but it needs about 4,222 ft of runway.
- Cessna Citation Sovereign (680) instead: The original version: same cabin and runway strength for less money, with older Honeywell avionics, no winglets and about 150 nm less range.

Most airplanes for sale carry PowerAdvantage+; without a program the owner pays for both engines' 3,000-hour hot sections and 6,000-hour overhauls.
Known issues
Engine program coverage
Without PowerAdvantage+, ESP or JSSI, the owner pays for two PW306D hot sections at 3,000 hours and overhauls at 6,000 hours.
Tail bulkhead stiffener fix
A 2017 directive required repeat checks and a stiffener repair on 20 early airplanes; confirm the fix is in the logs.
G5000 software and datalink
Oceanic datalink (FANS 1/A) needs G5000 software 4.8; confirm the software level and datalink status before buying.

Strengths
- Takes off in 3,530 ft at maximum weight, the shortest among its midsize peers, and lands in about 2,600 ft.
- Flies about 3,000 nm with four passengers, enough for Los Angeles to New York or Honolulu nonstop.
- A 25 ft 3 in cabin with nine seats, a private lavatory and 135 cu ft of baggage space.
Limitations
- Cabin height is 5 ft 8 in over a dropped aisle, against six-foot flat floors in the Latitude and Praetor 500.
- Thirstier than newer midsize jets; we estimate about $2.4M a year to run at 300 hours.
- Only about 100 were built and production ended in 2021, so few examples come up for sale.
The Citation Sovereign+ is the second and final version of Cessna's Model 680 Sovereign, the midsize Citation that sits between the smaller XLS+ and the super-midsize Citation X. Cessna announced it in October 2012, delivered the first aircraft in December 2013 and ended production in 2021, when the flat-floor Citation Latitude and the larger Longitude took over its place in the lineup. About 100 were built. Compared with the original Sovereign it added winglets, slightly stronger Pratt & Whitney Canada PW306D engines, a Garmin G5000 cockpit with autothrottles, 475 lb more takeoff weight and roughly 150 nm more range.
Pilot's take
The Sovereign+ is a calm, capable airplane to fly. The Garmin G5000 cockpit brings three large displays, touch-screen controllers, synthetic vision and autothrottles, and the trailing-link gear makes landings forgiving on short runways. It climbs directly to 45,000 ft at maximum weight and is certified to 47,000 ft, with a cabin altitude of about 7,230 ft up high. Plan on two pilots every time. On a pre-buy, read the engine program contracts, the G5000 software level and datalink status, and the records for the tail bulkhead and brake directives before you look at the interior.
Who this is for
A family or company flight department with two-pilot crews flying 200–400 hours a year on 1,000–3,000 nm trips with four to nine passengers, often from shorter runways, buying at about $11–13M and budgeting about $2.2–2.6M a year.
