Praetor 600 (EMB-550)
Second of three versions of Embraer's EMB-550 super-midsize, between the Legacy 500 and the Praetor 600E.
The Praetor 600 out-ranges every super-midsize rival, flying four passengers 4,018 nm in a quiet six-foot cabin with the largest baggage space in its class. Its cabin is narrower than a Challenger's, and recent safety directives need checking on any example.
Buy it if
You fly four to eight people up to 4,000 nm, want New York to London or Los Angeles to Honolulu nonstop without paying for a large-cabin jet, and value a smooth, quiet ride with plenty of luggage space.
Skip it if
You need the widest super-midsize cabin, a large service network everywhere you fly, or the fastest cruise. A Challenger 3500 is roomier side to side, and a Gulfstream G280 or Citation Longitude cruises a little faster.
Biggest compromise
The cabin is 6 ft 10 in wide, about four inches narrower than a Challenger 3500 or Gulfstream G280, so the aisle and seats feel tighter on long trips. Embraer's support network is also smaller: 31 of its 70 authorized service centers worldwide can work on the Praetor 600.

What came before and after
What changed from the Embraer Legacy 500
- Range with four passengers grew from 3,125 nm to 4,018 nm.
- Two belly fuel tanks add about 3,090 lb of fuel, for about 16,140 lb in total.
- Larger winglets stretch the wingspan from 63 ft 2 in to 70 ft 6 in.
- Honeywell HTF7500E thrust rises from 7,036 lb to 7,528 lb per engine.
- Maximum takeoff weight climbs from 38,360 lb to 42,857 lb.
- Active Turbulence Reduction uses the fly-by-wire controls to smooth out bumpy air.

- Bombardier Challenger 3500 instead: A cabin about four inches wider and Bombardier's large service network, but roughly 600 nm less range with four passengers.
- Gulfstream G280 instead: Gulfstream support, a wider cabin and slightly faster cruise, but it needs far more runway to land and flies shorter distances.
- Embraer Praetor 500 instead: Same cockpit and cabin cross-section in a shorter midsize body, with 3,340 nm range and lower purchase and running costs.

- Engine fuel control overhaul · 7,000 hr
- Compressor borescope inspection · 9,000 hr

- 60-month inspection every 60 months

No fixed overhaul time; the 4,500-hour inspection with a bearing replacement is the big event. Most listed aircraft are on Honeywell MSP or JSSI.
Known issues
Pitch trim actuator directive
A 2026 emergency directive requires a pitch trim actuator check; replacing a failed unit costs about $150,000 in parts.
Angle-of-attack limiter during landing
The protection can engage in gusty air during landing; flight manual limits apply until a flight computer software update is installed.
Cockpit side window cracking
Two directives require repeat inspections of cockpit side windows and eventual replacement of affected parts.

Review
The full review
Strengths
- Flies 4,018 nm with four passengers, about 600 nm farther than a Challenger 3500 and enough for New York to London.
- Six-foot flat-floor cabin at 5,800 ft cabin altitude, with 155 cu ft of baggage, the most in its class.
- Lands in about 2,165 ft and takes off in 4,717 ft at maximum weight, opening shorter runways than rivals use.
Limitations
- Cabin is 6 ft 10 in wide, about four inches narrower than a Challenger 3500 or Gulfstream G280.
- A 2026 emergency directive requires a pitch trim actuator check; a failed unit costs about $150,000 in parts.
- Engines have no fixed overhaul time, so an engine without a program faces large, uneven shop bills.
The Embraer Praetor 600 is a super-midsize business jet built since 2019, the second version of Embraer's EMB-550 after the Legacy 500. Embraer added two belly fuel tanks, larger winglets that stretch the wingspan to 70 ft 6 in, and engines rated at 7,528 lb of thrust each. Those changes lifted range with four passengers from 3,125 nm to 4,018 nm. About 173 had been delivered by September 2026, and new aircraft now arrive as the Praetor 600E, which keeps the same performance with a redesigned cabin.
Pilot's take
From the flight deck, the Praetor 600 is defined by its fly-by-wire controls. Sidesticks, envelope protection and autothrottles cut workload, and the same system damps turbulence for the cabin. Pilots coming from conventional jets need training time to understand the protections, especially the angle-of-attack limiter, which is the subject of a pending software update after hard-landing reports. The Collins Pro Line Fusion touchscreens are modern and well integrated. With 7,528 lb of thrust per engine and a large wing, it climbs into the mid-40s and handles steep approaches well. In planning, fuel rarely limits the trip; passenger stamina and crew duty time usually do.
Who this is for
Owners and companies flying four to eight passengers on coast-to-coast and transatlantic trips, 200 to 400 hours a year, who want long-range capability without a large-cabin price and are comfortable with Embraer's growing but smaller service network.
