PC-12 NG (/47E)
Fourth version of the PC-12, built 2008–2020 between the PC-12/47 and the PC-12 NGX.
The PC-12 NG carries six to eight people or bulky cargo from short or grass strips, flies about 1,600 nm with four aboard, and needs only one pilot. The trade-offs are a 280-kt top speed and asks of $3M to $5.1M.
Buy it if
You fly two to six people on 200–1,200 nm trips, use short, high or unpaved runways, carry bikes, dogs or cargo, and want one-pilot operation, with the option to fly it yourself after proper training.
Skip it if
Your trips are mostly over 1,000 nm and speed matters, your passengers insist on two engines or a jet, or you want a lower cabin altitude than the 10,000 ft this cabin reaches at its 30,000 ft ceiling.
Biggest compromise
Speed. Top cruise is about 280 kt, roughly 150 kt slower than most light jets, so Dallas to Teterboro takes over five hours.

Lineage
What came before and after
What changed from the PC-12/47
- PT6A-67P engine with about 15% more power in reserve, holding performance better at altitude and heat.
- Honeywell Primus Apex cockpit with four large screens replaces the older Bendix/King displays.
- Digital automatic pressurization with two-zone temperature control, plus dual generators and batteries.
- New executive interior styled by BMW DesignworksUSA.
- Top cruise rises to about 280 kt, roughly 10 kt faster than the PC-12/47.
- From 2016, a five-blade composite propeller adds about 5 kt and reduces cabin noise.

- Pilatus PC-12 NGX instead: About 10 kt faster, with single-lever digital engine control, larger windows and a longer engine overhaul interval, at noticeably higher prices.
- Daher TBM 930 instead: Much faster for up to four passengers, but with a smaller cabin, no enclosed lavatory and far less room for cargo.
- Beechcraft King Air B200 instead: A similar-size cabin with two engines for buyers who want twin-engine redundancy, at the cost of a second engine to fuel and maintain.

Known issues
Engine overhaul exposure
The PT6A-67P overhauls at 3,500 hours; aircraft near that point without engine program coverage face a six-figure bill.
Landing gear actuator corrosion
A 2023 directive requires rework or replacement of corroded gear actuators on many NGs; replacement runs about $16,000.
Main gear fitting inspections
Repeat eddy-current inspections of main gear yoke fittings apply across the PC-12 fleet after cracking was found.

Strengths
- A 53 by 52 in cargo door and 330 cu ft cabin take bikes, skis, dogs and freight most light jets cannot.
- Clears a 50 ft obstacle about 2,650 ft after starting its takeoff roll and is approved for grass and unpaved strips.
- About 1,600 nm with four passengers, and about 1,000 lb of payload even with full tanks.
Limitations
- Top cruise of about 280 kt (285 kt on 2016 and later aircraft) turns 1,000 nm trips into four-hour flights.
- The cabin is 4 ft 10 in tall and reaches about 10,000 ft cabin altitude at the 30,000 ft ceiling.
- An engine near its 3,500-hour overhaul carries a six-figure bill, so engine hours and program coverage drive price.
The PC-12 NG is the fourth version of Pilatus's single-engine turboprop, built from 2008 into 2020 between the PC-12/47 and the PC-12 NGX. Pilatus kept the proven airframe, a single Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A engine, a large aft cargo door and room for up to nine passengers, then added a stronger PT6A-67P engine and a Honeywell Primus Apex cockpit with four large screens. About 940 were built, and 2016 and later aircraft received a quieter five-blade composite propeller that raised top cruise from about 280 kt to 285 kt.
Pilot's take
Pilots describe the PC-12 NG as a stable, forgiving airplane with docile low-speed handling and a big-airplane feel on approach. The Apex cockpit brings synthetic vision, dual flight management systems and coupled vertical navigation, which cuts single-pilot workload once learned. The PT6A-67P rewards careful engine handling: the power lever is not a digital single-lever system, so temperature and torque limits are the pilot's job. Weight and balance deserve respect because the cabin can easily be loaded past its limits. Recurrent simulator training and disciplined weather decisions matter more here than in most aircraft this size.
Who this is for
Owners, families and small companies flying 200 to 1,200 nm trips from short or rural airports, who value a big cargo door, one-pilot operation and strong resale more than speed. Charter and utility operators use it widely too.
