Range & payload 70, Cabin & passenger experience 75, Operating economics 70, Reliability & support 70, Airport access & versatility 80, Purchase value & resale 65, Speed & trip efficiency 70

Why 65 on purchase value & resale: Below 70: capability per dollar is reasonable but not standout, and economic-obsolescence exposure (engines, Primus 1000) is higher than typical for the cohort. High inventory also signals pricing pressure.

Known issues

  • Recurring fire-bottle wiring and A/C motor brush ADs

Icing/stall-warning history on the 560 line (ADs 96-24-06 -> 2000-03-09 for S/N 0001-0437; AD 2008-26-04 AOA test for S/N 0001-0538); pitch trim single-point failure AD 2003-23-02 (S/N 0260-0396, Ultra-only); wing fuel boost pump wiring AD 2006-06-03; fire-bottle wiring ADs 2007-11-17 and 2025-11-09 (24-month repeat); A/C motor brush AD 2015-17-12 (<=500 hr). Hydromechanical fuel controls need frequent thrust-lever trimming in climb (B/CA). Low stance makes drains and brake-wear checks awkward.

The full review

Our take

  • Short-field performance: 3,180 ft takeoff field length at 16,300 lb, sea level/ISA (B/CA 1997), shorter than the Bravo, Beechjet 400A and Learjet 31A on the same aggregator data.
  • Usable cabin for the class: ~17.4 ft with a dropped aisle and 69 cu ft of baggage, 26 cu ft of it reachable in flight.
  • Deep, visible market and support: 28 listings observed on 2026-09-28 (median priced ask $2.195M) and a large 560 fleet served by Citation and JT15D shops.
“The Citation Ultra is the Citation V with better engines and a glass cockpit.”

The Citation Ultra is the Citation V with better engines and a glass cockpit. Cessna built 279 of them from 1994 to 1999, serials 560-0260 through 560-0538. Compared with the V, it has Pratt & Whitney JT15D-5D engines at 3,045 lb of thrust (the V's -5A made 2,900), a three-screen Honeywell Primus 1000 flight deck, and a 16,300 lb maximum takeoff weight, 400 lb more than the V. The cabin and airframe are unchanged, and the Encore that followed swapped to PW535A engines.

Pilot's take

The -5Ds give it a strong climb and B/CA's 3,180 ft takeoff number at gross is excellent for the class. The Primus 1000 was a big step in 1994, but it is now a support question more than a selling point. The real change is crew: with the single-pilot exemption gone, you are paying two pilots. If you are doing that anyway, this is one of the most runway-flexible cabins in the class.

Who this is for · A small operator or owner with a professional crew flying about 150-350 hours a year on regional trips who wants a dropped-aisle Citation cabin with short-field access for roughly $2 million.
