Engines & programs

2 x Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D-5A turbofans, 2,900 lbf takeoff thrust each (sea level, standard day)

  • Phases 1-4 (each, 300 hr/24 mo)
  • Phase 5 (1,200 hr/36 mo)
  • JT15D-5A hot section (~1,750 hr) and overhaul (3,500 hr)

JT15D-5A: 3,500 hr overhaul with 1,750 hr hot section (a 3,600 hr figure also appears). Overhaul quoted at roughly $250k-$575k per engine (vendor blog, undated).

Known issues

  • Nose-gear shimmy
  • Pressurization and bleed-air leaks
  • Avionics obsolescence (SPZ-500/EDZ)
  • Icing-related AD history
  • Engine overhaul timing

Nose-gear shimmy (recurs after rebuilds), gear position switches/proximity sensors, wheels/brakes/anti-skid, bleed-air and pressurization leaks (packs, outflow valves), A/C compressor brush wear (AD 2013-09-11), firm touchdowns with straight-leg gear, and mixed-vintage avionics integration. ADs with recurring items: 2025-11-09 (fire-bottle wiring, every 24 months) and 2013-09-11 (A/C compressor brushes, every 500 hr of motor time). Note: the pitch-trim runaway AD (2003-23-02) applies to Ultras only.

Support & programs

No confirmed airframe maintenance program for the Model 560 V: Textron ProParts/ProTech eligibility not stated for legacy 560s, JSSI Tip-to-Tail eligibility not confirmed.

Legacy Citation phase program: Phases 1-4 every 300 hr or 24 months and Phase 5 every 1,200 hr or 36 months (from a 550 MRO table and a 560-specific statement that Phase 5 is on a roughly three-year clock).

The full review

Our take

  • Roomier than the Citation II and S/II: about 17.3 ft of cabin with a dropped aisle, seven to eight seats and 1,450 lb of baggage across three compartments.
  • Short-runway performance: about 3,160 ft takeoff at sea level and max weight, landings near 2,250 ft unfactored, and a 45,000 ft ceiling.
  • Practical range with support behind it: about 1,500 nm with four passengers (NBAA IFR), a large Citation service network, and approved Garmin TXi/GTN and ADS-B upgrades.
“The Citation V is the airplane Cessna built in 1989 when the Citation S/II needed more room and more thrust.”

The Citation V is the airplane Cessna built in 1989 when the Citation S/II needed more room and more thrust. It stretched the S/II fuselage, swapped in Pratt & Whitney Canada JT15D-5A engines rated at 2,900 pounds of thrust each, and went back to pneumatic de-ice boots. The type certificate data sheets put the Citation V at serials 560-0001 through 560-0259; about 262 were delivered between 1989 and 1994, and in 1997 B/CA credited the V and its Ultra successor with one of every five new turbofan business aircraft sold over the previous five years.

Pilot's take

The catch is crew. A lot of these airplanes were bought to be flown solo on the exemption, and that ended on September 29, 2026. If you're staffing two pilots anyway, it's a comfortable airplane for four to six people. Respect it in ice, since the 560's AD history is built around icing stalls, and read the engine logs before you look at the paint.

— TheJetGrade editorial

Who this is for · An owner or small operator with a two-pilot crew flying roughly 150-350 hours a year on regional trips who wants more cabin than a Citation II and short-runway access at well under Ultra prices.
